Friday Night Smackdown: Our Elimination Chamber looks better then RAW’s

Friday Night Smackdown – February 5, 2010

Tonight on Smackdown we should find out who the five men who will go in the Elimination Chamber to face the Champion, Undertaker in less than three weeks. I assume it will be Chris Jericho, Kane, Batista, Mysterio & maybe Punk? At the Royal Rumble Undertaker was able to repel the challenge of Rey Mysterio, but will Mysterio decide he wants a rematch? Also on RAW it was announced that D-X would defend the tag titles against Miz & Big Show and also CM Punk & Luke Gallows in a three way match. How will the Straight Edge Society respond to that? These questions will be resolved tonight on Smackdown.

  1. We open the show with Chris Jericho who makes his way down the aisle, as the announcers talk about Edge’s big return and elimination of Jericho on Sunday. Jericho looks like he smells something bad, did he join the Vince McMahon kiss my ass club off camera? Chris says tonight was supposed to be his night, and he should be the winner of the Rumble. He says the main event of Wrestlemania was taken away from him as well, as he talks about beating four men in one match at Wrestlemania last year. Chris says it was all taken away from him by Edge, as he says Edge entered the Rumble unannounced and doesn’t deserve the win. Chris mentions that Edge has gone and in the meantime he has been carrying the company, and now because Edge is back that’s all anyone cares about. Jericho calls Edge a con artist, and the same man who has no heart, passion or fire and walked on him while they were tag champs. Jericho says he has nothing, well he does have an arrest record, I’m just saying is all. Chris demands Teddy Long come out and rectify the situation, as he calls himself the face of Smackdown. Teddy doesn’t come out, and so Jericho slides out of the ring and heads up the ramp and then heads backstage. Jericho storms the backstage area looking for Teddy’s office, and storms in and sitting at Long’s desk is Edge! Edge says he’s seen that look before, after he eliminated him from the Rumble and says Chris is the reason he’s back. Edge says he created a monster, and Jericho says he will slay the monster and will regret coming back, Edge responds Jericho will regret that he came back. Edge says the Cutting Edge will return tonight and has a special guest, Undertaker, tonight. Jericho tells Edge he’ll be watching and storms out of the office.
  2. Drew McIntyre v. John Morrison v. Kane. Well, let’s see here, we have the hot newcomer, the quickly rising star and the guy who’s done nothing in about 10 years. Who should win this match, oh I know, Kane. After all he’s the ‘brother’ of Undertaker, so he has to be in the match. I just hope that WWE doesn’t follow that logic. I’d love to see JoMo in the chamber. JoMo goes right after Drew as the bell rings, and Kane tries to come from behind and JoMo pounds him. Drew attacks John from behind, and hammers Kane in the corner. John rolls Drew up for pin attempt, but Kane goes for the double chokeslam, and John and Drew counter to double DDT. John clotheslines Drew and they both tumble to the floor as we go to commercial. We come back and Drew is pounding on Kane and sets him in the corner and continues to pound him. John is still out on the floor, as Kane fires back on McIntyre, hits the snapmare/low dropkick combo for a near fall, but Morrison makes the save. Morrison stomps Kane and Drew whips JoMo in and nails a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a near fall. Kane breaks the pin, and catches Drew with a big boot and climbs the ropes. John hits the kick on Kane, but Drew clotheslines John out of the ring. Drew goes for a superplex on Kane, but Kane holds the ropes and pushes Drew down. Kane has the chokeslam ready on Drew, but John hits the Chuck Kick on both men, and dropkicks Drew, then the heel kick on Kane for a near fall. John and Drew slug it out, and John hits sick DDT on Drew, but Kane breaks that pin attempt. John goes after Kane now, and gets taken down, then Kane hits a corner clothesline on Drew, then John, then clotheslines Drew out. John slides under Kane, but gets caught in the sideslam for a near fall. Kane climbs the ropes and nails the diving lariat on John, then readies for the chokeslam, but Drew nails Kane with the IC title and hits a Future Shock. John breaks the pin and hits Starship Pain on Kane for the victory!!!! 3.5/5 a very impressive match, and a shocking win. No one I wanted to see win more, so glad Kane’s not going to be in the chamber match.
  3. R-Truth v. Mike Knox. Nothing would make me happier then to see Mike Knox win here and be in the chamber. I think this guy is future main event potential; he has the look, the power and can cut pretty good promos. They lock up, and Truth with a side headlock, Knox pushes him in the corner, but misses the charge. Knox comes back with the Flying Bear for a near fall. Knox slams Truth and drops a big knee for another near fall, as Knox is hammering Truth down. Knox hammers Truth, but misses a charge and tumbles to the floor, where Truth follows with a nice dive. Truth rolls Mike back in, and climbs the ropes and hits a missile dropkick. Truth goes for the axe kick, but Knox with a clothesline; Truth ducks under and hits the flying forearm for the win. 1/5 way to short and wrong guy won in my opinion. That gives us half the guys in the chamber.
  4. Batista v. CM Punk. Great, they’re going to kill the Straight Edge Superstar. Why build up the best part of SD and now have him get squashed, last week Triple H and now this steroid induced sack of crap. C’mon Batista’s dumber then a five pound sack of stupid. CM Punk ready for the match, as Batista just stands in the corner and doesn’t want to come out. Batista walks out of the ring, and heads up the ramp as Punk tells the ref count faster. The ref counts Batista out and CM Punk is in the chamber. OK, that made no sense, but I don’t care, as long as Batista is not in the chamber, all is good in the world. We see Matt Hardy backstage talking with Maria, as he congratulates her on being on the Apprentice, I can’t wait to see that.
  5. Matt Hardy v. Chris Jericho. Well, Matt has about as much chance of winning this match as we have a chance of seeing the return of Cop Rock. Not that anyone could possibly remember that horrible show. Anyways, Jericho starts out hiding in the corner, they lock up and Matt gets Chris in the corner, and Jericho shoves Matt and runs out of the ring. Jericho gets back in the ring, and they lock up, as Matt whips Jericho in and Jericho comes back with a shoulderblock. Matt answers with a clothesline and hammers Jericho in the corner. Matt gets caught by Jericho, and whipped in, but he catches Jericho running in and tosses to the floor. Matt dives off the apron and lands on Jericho, Matt grabs the leg of Jericho, but Jericho kicks him off sending Matt headfirst to the stairs. The ref is counting Matt out, but Matt back in at nine and Jericho continues pounding on Matt. Matt is bleeding from the mouth, stop the match and call the medics quick. Matt rolls Jericho up for a near fall, and Jericho comes back with the enziguri for a near fall of his own. Chris chokes Matt on the ropes before continuing hammering on Hardy, but misses a charge in the corner and hits his shoulder on the post. Matt gets a near fall as Matt now has the offense and whips Chris in, hitting the corner clothesline/bulldog combo for a near fall. Matt on the second rope, hits an elbow to the back of the head and readies for Twist of Fate, but Jericho shoves him in the rope and hits a back elbow. Jericho with a Lionsault for a near fall, he continues to unload on Matt but misses a clothesline and into a Side Effect for a near fall. The announcers talk about the key on Matt’s tight, calling it the key to destiny. Matt misses a charge in and Chris rolls him up with feet on the ropes for a near fall. Jericho goes for the Walls, but Hardy rolls Jericho up and almost scores the biggest win ever. Matt goes for Twist of Fate, but Jericho holds the ropes and gets the Codebreaker for the win. 3/5 not a bad match, but something just didn’t seem right. No idea what, but it just felt slow to me.
  6. The hottest Women’s Champion ever, Mickie James, comes out and looks smoking hot as always. Mickie stands so proud with her title, as she gets the microphone. Mickie says ever since she came to Smackdown horseface and scary spice have been tormenting her, and the pranks and jokes hurt. She says by rising above and being real is what a true champion is about, and anyone who cuts you down, what goes around come around. She’s such a role model. Suddenly she gets cut off by the Glamazon, Beth Phoenix, who makes her way to the ring. Beth says while Mickie celebrated her victory over two little girls, she made history by entering the Rumble. Beth says she’s in a league of her own, and she’s proud of Mickie’s moment, but says she will take the title when she wants to. Mickie laughs and tells Beth if she wants a match just ask, suddenly we hear, “Excuse Me”. Well, I’d rather hear Vickie then horseface; Vickie says excuse me many times and says this is not happening. Vickie says if they want to compete, they can face the number one contender Michelle McCool and Layla. For God’s sake, do we need to see these two again, seriously? Why can’t she just blow a quad and disappear, instead of blowing…never mind.
  7. Mickie James & Beth Phoenix v. Michelle McCool & Layla. Horseface and Beth start out, as Mickie lays the title on the turnbuckle. Beth overpowers horseface, and horsey gets a cheapshot in, but Beth whips her in and squashes her. Horseface with a dropkick to the knee, and works over the leg of Beth, as Beth powers out. Beth runs over and pummels Scary Spice, and gets in the face of fire buzzard and just powers her in the corner. Mickie tagged in, and works the arm, when suddenly Beth nails Mickie in the face, damn her. Beth looks at horseface, and punches her in the face as well, and leaves the ring. Horseface tags in Layla who goes at Mickie, but Mickie rolls up Layla for the easy pin. 1/5 barely a match, as it was more storyline then match, so nothing more can be said. At least Mickie looked good, as always.
  8. Rey Mysterio v. Dolph Ziggler. Well, this is the most one sided match of the night, as Rey’s been in the main event, while Dolph was quickly eliminated at the Rumble. They lock up, and Dolph goes behind and drops Rey down, then slaps him. Rey quickly back up, as the announcers go over the names already in. Another lock up, and a side headlock from Ziggler, who gets whipped in, and Rey leapfrogs, but gets clotheslined down for a near fall. Rey flips back up, on the shoulders of Rey and gets a near fall. Dolph punches Rey, who fires back with kicks and gets whipped in, but comes back with a spinning headscissor. Dolph goes to the floor as Rey dives over the top onto him; Rey tosses Dolph in, but gets caught on the apron by Ziggler. Ziggler tries to ram Rey in the corner, but Rey fights back and climbs the ropes, and gets caught coming off the top as Ziggler nails a big dropkick to the ribs. Dolph goes for a belly to back Suplex, but Rey slides down, and sets Ziggler for 619 but Ziggler slides out as we go to commercial. We come back as Ziggler is hammering Rey, who then sets Rey on the top, but Rey fights out, and Ziggler right back up and hits a superplex for a near fall. Dolph stomps Rey and then bends Rey in half and follows up with a slingshot to the corner, but Rey spring to the second rope. Dolph runs in and Rey drop toe holds Dolph into the buckle. Rey hits a springboard senton, wouldn’t that hurt the testicles? Rey with a low side kick gets a near fall, as Rey whips Dolph in, but countered, and Rey comes off the ropes. Ziggler catches him in the wheelbarrow, but Rey counters to DDT and a near fall. Dolph begs off and whips Rey in the corner, Rey jumps over, but Dolph catches him in the powerslam for a near fall. Dolph hits a legdrop for another near fall, as Dolph is getting frustrated, while the crowd chants 619. Correction, the kids chant 619, the adults are asleep. Dolph hits a backbreaker, and goes for a belly to back, countered to a roll up for the win. 3.5/5 not a bad match, but Dolph should’ve won, Rey has had his chance and it’s time for someone else. Besides the fact that has not been very impressive in a long time. After the match Dolph charges at Rey, who sidesteps and hits the 619 on Ziggler.
  9. The Cutting Edge w/ Undertaker! Edge starts out by saying it feels good to be back on Smackdown, and it’s good to be home.  Edge talks about the torn Achilles tendon, and says all the pain was worth it to come back for this very moment. Edge says he defied doctor’s odds and is back earlier and on the road to the main event of Wrestlemania 26. Edge says he could face his guest tonight, the Undertaker, or the WWE Champion, Sheamus. They show the video from RAW of Edge spearing Ronald McDonald from RAW. As Edge laughs at the video, he gets interrupted by Chris Jericho who makes his way down to the ring. Jericho knocks over the stools and gets in Edge face, and tells Edge he’s been waiting to be in the main event of Wrestlemania and he took it away and didn’t deserve to win. Edge says Jericho didn’t deserve to win because he eliminated him at the Rumble. Jericho says he was sneak-attacked and is the face of Smackdown, Edge says he’s not and it’s his fault. Edge says he wants to make Jericho eat the words that he keeps saying, and is sick of Jericho’s face. As they get face to face, out comes the Straight Edge Society, and CM Punk says the two of them look beautiful showing they’re tragic flaws. CM Punk says he is better then everybody, and calls Edge and Jericho two pill popping junkies arguing over who gets the last fix. Punk says it’s not about the chamber, but the Undertaker, and who of the three has had a better spotlight against Taker then himself. Punk says while Edge was on vacation he became the first person to make Edge tap out, something Edge and Jericho could never do. Punk continues to preach as Edge and Jericho just glare at him, as he says he will win the chamber and be the four time Straight Edge champion of the world. Suddenly we hear the gong and the lights go out, when they come on Undertaker is in the ring. Undertaker nails Punk, while Edge and Jericho slug it out. Undertaker clotheslines Gallows out as Edge spears Jericho; Undertaker nails the chokeslam on Punk and Edge readies to spear Undertaker. Undertaker whirls around and Edge smiles at him, and motions the title will be his, as we fade to black,

Match Recap:

  1. John Morrison beat Drew McIntyre & Kane 3.5/5
  2. R-Truth beat Mike Knox 1/5
  3. CM Punk beat Batista by countout no rating
  4. Chris Jericho pinned Matt Hardy 3/5
  5. Mickie James & Beth Phoenix beat Layla & Michelle McCool 1/5
  6. Rey Mysterio beat Dolph Ziggler 3.5/5

This was not a bad show, but the matches were way too short. Truth/Knox and the diva match were probably five minutes combined, and Punk/Batista didn’t even happen. So for the Smackdown Chamber we have Undertaker vs. John Morrison vs. R-Truth vs. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio. That’s a pretty sweet match there, as we have four talented guys and two washed up cripples. I’d replace Rey with Knox, and that would improve the match. Of course if we could’ve gotten rid of Undertaker and put Drew in there would be even better. Still it looks better then Raw’s which has Sheamus vs. Triple H vs. Randy Orton vs. Ted DiBiase vs. John Cena vs. Kofi Kingston. Only one guy in that match worth watching, and that’s Kofi. The rest is just the same old guys, plus DiBiase. I think it’s too soon for DiBiase in there, but at least it’s not Big Show. Well, this just leaves Impact to watch.
