WWE Superstars – April 22, 2010

What a week this has been for the WWE. They were trapped overseas and the RAW crew wound up missing this week’s tapings, right before a PPV. Personally I’m impressed Vince didn’t force them to row a boat back to the US, considering his treatment of the wrestlers. Due to this happening we had RAW is Smackdown on Monday night, and what could’ve been an amazing opportunity to showcase some of the younger talent instead became a complete waste of time. We had Undertaker defeat the new champ, Jack Swagger, who has yet to score a win since winning the belt. Triple H and Rey Mysterio defeated CM Punk and Chris Jericho, as Punk continues to be the best jobber in the company. Oh, and of course the usual stupidity as the WWE blew up R-Truth, but he was back the next night on NXT with no mention of the explosion. I don’t understand how anyone could’ve watched RAW and said it was a good show, it was pathetic, and that’s the last mention of RAW in this recap. Then last night we get the announcement of seven releases, Jimmy Yang, Slam Master J, Mickie James, Katie Lea, Mike Knox, Funaki, Shelton Benjamin as the WWE continues to screw up royally. I don’t understand how these seven could be released yet the WWE keeps the Bella Twins, Rosa Mendes (yes I like Rosa, but not as a wrestler), Kelly, Mark Henry, Kane, Cryme Tyme and Rey Mysterio. Yang and Slam are two exceptionally talented young stars that are horribly misused. Same can be said for Mike Knox, this man could’ve been a huge monster ala Kane or Undertaker an instead became the next Giant Gonzales as they could never figure out how to use him. Mike has the size, talent, ability and charisma to be a main event player, but leave it to the WWE to drop the ball. Speaking of dropping the ball, Shelton Benjamin, how the hell is this man not a main eventer? Seriously, he is easily the most talented man in the entire WWE and consistently puts on great matches every week. He came in the WWE with a huge push as he beat Ric Flair and Triple H, then became a member of Team Angle, and after that fell apart, nothing happened to him for the last five years or so. Funaki is one of the elder statesmen on the WWE, having been there since 98, and has always been horribly undervalued by the WWE. He has charisma and talent as well, but never was given a chance to show his skills. Katie Lea is an excellent female wrestler, watch her matches from OVW, but never got an opportunity in the WWE. Once Paul Burchill was released last month the writing was on the wall for Katie, and now she’s gone. Mickie, Mickie, Mickie what the hell is the WWE brass smoking to release her? I don’t know what the hell is wrong with this company, it seems the more talent you have the less they like you. Mickie is one of the last great female wrestlers in the company, and has been treated like shit for the last six month. WWE had a great opportunity to use her music career to push her into the mainstream, but instead they released her weeks before her CD comes out. Sound familiar? They did the same thing to Maria; however Maria was always lacking in her wrestling ability but made up for it with her charisma. Mickie’s release basically finished off the women’s division as the only one left that they use is Beth, but I think her days are numbered. I expect we’ll see more releases in the coming weeks; Jillian, Carlito (after NXT fails), Primo, Gail, Kozlov, Barreta, Croft, and Ziggler are probably going to be next. The only good thing about these releases is I expect we will see some of them in TNA, mainly Mickie, Katie, Knox and Shelton. This will give us some really fantastic matches at least, Abyss versus Knox, Morgan versus Knox, AJ versus Shelton, RVD versus Shelton, Katie versus Angelina, and Mickie versus Daffney. So with a PPV coming up this weekend, which I really have no interest in, there probably won’t be a recap of that show. Basically at this point, Superstars is the only WWE show I plan to watch/recap anymore, while the PPV will basically be fast forwarded through (other than Jericho/Edge). So let’s get to the only WWE show worth watching anymore, Superstars.

WWE Superstars – April 8, 2010

It’s time for Superstars this week, after a surprisingly good episode of RAW and another great episode of NXT. Tonight on Superstars we get diva action, among other things, and it should be a good show. I picked Superstars as the only WWE show I’m recapping regularly because it features RAW and Smackdown superstars, and it’s consistently the best WWE show of the week. So with that out of the way, let’s get started.

WWE Superstars – April 1, 2010

I still have Smackdown to watch after this, so let’s not waste any time and let’s get this show on the go.

1. Kofi Kingston & MVP v Zack Ryder & Carlito. Tonight we play make random tag teams and hope for the best, why not. At least Carlito is getting TV time. MVP & Carlito start the match, and MVP goes after Carlito’s rookie. MVP pushes Tarver and Tarver pushes back but MVP then slugs him. MVP slides in as Carlito goes to calm down his rookie who wants in the ring. Carlito finally gets in and they lock up, MVP with the side headlock. Carlito shoots him in, but MVP comes back with a shoulderblock and hiptoss. Carlito backs up as MVP poses, and Tarver giving advice to Carlito? Carlito gets back up and quickly hammers MVP and sends him to the corner, but MVP jumps over and comes back with a clothesline. Zack tagged in and comes in the hard way, as MVP flips him in and hits the shoulderblock. MVP drops the balling elbow on Ryder and waits for him to get up, but Carlito pulls him out. Kofi and MVP hit a double baseball slide as we go to commercial.

The Week in Review – March 15 – 19, 2010

Best Match of the Week

1. Christian, Mark Henry & Yoshi Tatsu v. Zack Ryder, Jack Swagger & William Regal from Superstars 9.25/10

Worst Match of the Week

1. Undertaker v. Drew McIntyre from Smackdown DUD

Well, I missed a few weeks of the reviews, but there really hasn’t been much to rave about on the shows. I hate to say it but Superstars and Wrestlicious are quickly becoming the two shows to see each week. I still need to get a chance to watch the NXT shows and recap them, I’ve only watched the first one or two, and liked it. Hopefully this week the recaps of NXT will be done. As for the shows this week, Smackdown was bad, RAW was better than usual, Superstars was phenomenal, Impact was mediocre and Wrestlicious was just plain old fun. Overall Superstars is far and away the best show of the week with three amazing matches. Read more…

WWE Superstars – March 18, 2010

It’s time once again for WWE Superstars, tonight we have diva action as the Bella Twins face off against Jillian & Katie Lea. Thursday’s just don’t seem the same without TNA to be honest, and I hate to say it but I think they were better off on Thursday. Anyway, let’s get to tonight’s episode of Superstars. Read more…

Monday Night RAW – On the Road to Wrestlemania

Tonight begins the true road to Wrestlemania, as we have no more PPVs between now and the big day. Last night at the Elimination Chamber PPV we crowned new champions, as John Cena survived the RAW Chamber and won the title, only to fall to Vince McMahon’s new henchman Batista. Meanwhile on the Smackdown show, Chris Jericho scored a pin on the Undertaker to win the title, but not without controversy. When it got down to the final two, Undertaker was ready to finish off Chris Jericho when Shawn Michaels appeared from under the steel structure. Shawn nailed the Deadman with Sweet Chin Music and stood over him as Chris Jericho scored the victory. It was not a great night for the Undertaker, as earlier in the night on his way to the ring his pyro went off at the ring time and lit him on fire. Also last night Kane fell to the undefeated Scotsman, Drew McIntyre and The Miz defeated long time rival MVP, thanks to the Big Show. The Diva title tournament was once again pushed to the back burner for the sake of a storyline, as Vickie Guerrero came out and postponed the RAW match, even though she’s on Smackdown. Vickie made the match a tag match between Maryse & Gail Kim facing Smackdown’s Michelle McCool & Layla, which was won by Smackdown when Maryse turned on Gail. Great way to get McCool on PPV when she’s not scheduled, must be nice to have that much ‘stroke’. I don’t understand the Vickie part, so if she shows up she gets to make match for RAW too, or just the divas. That’s a loophole big enough to drive a Big Daddy V through. People complained that I was critical of the Batista/Cena match, well it was technically a match, so it should be given a rating. I never said Cena and Batista have been at it too long, they’ve been on top too long. It’s time for some new blood to rise to the top and get a shot. I’d rather have seen Kofi and Morrison win the chamber matches last night, would’ve been new and fresh. Everyone predicted that Jericho was going to win, so they should’ve swerved us and had JoMo get the victory. Then at Wrestlemania we could have JoMo v. Jericho and Edge v. Kofi, I’d love to see that as the main events. I just want to see someone new with the title instead of the same group of guys, but someone who they get behind and push, that is. Not like what they did to Sheamus, did he even win a match via pin while champion? He was pushed to the back in favor of storyline advancement for others, and his title reign became a joke, like Jericho’s when he was the unified champ back in 01. I enjoyed the PPV last night, even though the end was very predictable the matches were great and I’m happy that HHH didn’t leave with the title. Tonight on RAW we have our special guest host Jewel and Ty Murray, and also Edge will pick the champion (Jericho) he will face at Wrestliemania (Jericho). Should be an interesting show.

ECW on SyFy – The End of ECW

ECW on SyFy – February 16, 2010

Tonight marks the death of the WWE’s version of ECW, although the real ECW died nine years ago. Vince McMahon felt compelled to create his own version of ECW and at one time even went so far as to make himself the World Champion. ECW has seen a lot of good and a lot of bad over the years, but personally I always thought ECW was the place to see good wrestling, and it’s sad to see it go. It’s replacement looks like a Tough Enough wannabe, and I won’t be covering that. I might watch the debut, but it really doesn’t seem like a good replacement. I wonder how many ECW stars will be let go over the next little while, and which ones will show up in TNA. Over the years in ECW we’ve had the Boogeyman, The Zombie, Big Daddy V, Sheamus, Zack Ryder, Bobby Lashley, Sabu, Rob Van Dam, and many others come through the doors. Some were successful, some were flops and some blew their opportunity. Tonight on the final ECW we have the tag champions defend the titles as Miz and Big Show face off with Goldust and Yoshi Tatsu. In our main event, Captain Charisma, Christian defends the ECW title against the massive Ezekiel Jackson in a extreme rules match. Those should both be good matches, and this should be a great show, so let’s get to it.

ECW on SyFy – February 9, 2010

ECW on SyFy – February 9, 2010

As Vince McMahon’s bastardized version of ECW draws it last breath, we continue along. Last night on RAW we saw ECW champion Christian challenge Sheamus, and announce that after ECW closes everyone becomes a free agent. What this means for some of the lesser utilized stars are unknown, but I have a feeling we are going to see some cuts very soon. The latest rumor about the ECW replacement is that is going to be a Tough Enough like show, which would suck. I enjoy ECW because of the fact there are no egos, unlike RAW or Smackdown. No one on ECW is trying to hold someone down; there are no Shawn Michaels, HHH, Batista, Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, John Cena, etc. There is just pure untapped talent along with some talented unused veterans, Regal, Christian & Benjamin. ECW is always been the place for the new stars to shine and rebuild those who’ve fallen. If not for ECW Goldust would’ve probably been released a long time ago, but his teaming with Yoshi Tatsu has done two things. One, it has revitalized his career and two; it has helped establish Tatsu as the future. This is something that is not done often enough on the big two. Rey Mysterio has been holding Dolph Ziggler down for the last six month, as he was supposed to win the title from Rey back at Summerslam and Rey refused. I blame Shawn Michaels fully for the fact that CM Punk did not win the tag titles last night, Shawn has said he doesn’t approve of Punk’s gimmick. Too many people have too much power, the only person who should make the decision of who wins and losses, is Vincent Kennedy McMahon, not Dave Batista, not that bastard son in law Triple H, not Mr. “I lost my smile but found God” Shawn Michaels. Anyway, I’m getting off on a rant here, and I don’t want to sound like Dennis Miller, but ECW was my favorite of the three, and it sucks that it’s going to be gone and the talent will get swallowed into RAW and Smackdown and then be forgotten. Just look at Jack Swagger, why is he not in the Elimination Chamber? The man could be the next Kurt Angle, but instead will probably be the next Charlie Haas, and don’t get me started on Charlie Haas. I digress, let’s just get to ECW. Read more…

ECW on SyFy: ECW is about to die…

ECW on SyFy – February 2, 2010

Tonight on ECW, Vincent Kennedy McMahon has a very important announcement, what could Mr. McMahon have to say. On Sunday night at the Royal Rumble, Captain Charisma Christian held back the challenge of the massive Ezekiel Jackson, where does Christian go from here? Who will step up as the next challenger for the ECW Title? Will there still be an ECW Title after tonight? We have all this and more tonight on ECW. Read more…
