WWF Wrestling Classic

Our next video in the Coliseum Home Video Collection is the first ever WWF PPV, the Wrestling Classic. This was a big tournament that took place in Chicago, Illinois and also featured a World Title defense from Hulk Hogan. It’s the only WWF PPV to feature Roddy Piper versus Hulk Hogan, which is surprising considering what a huge feud they had. This is one of my favorite shows, let’s hope it holds up. Read more…

WWE March Madness 2011 Tournament

Taking a brief hiatus from the Coliseum Home Video collection, we’re going to recap a special WWE program. The WWE March Madness 2012 Tournament that aired on WWE On Demand. This is basically the WWE’s attempt to do the NCAA March Madness tournament. I have no idea of the matches, so it’s all going to be a surprise, but I have a bad feeling the final match will be Undertaker versus Shawn Michaels, I hope I’m wrong. Hopefully we get some good solid matches and no garbage. Let’s get underway.

WWF Amazing Managers

After a brief hiatus, I’m back with the next tape in the Coliseum Home Video Library. Got briefly delayed watching the WWE Legends of Wrestling roundtable series, highly recommended viewing. They had some great stories and amazing clips, a great way to learn more about the history of the business. Anyways, back to the CHV series, today’s show is “WWF Amazing Managers”, a tape that will showcase the managers of the World Wrestling Federation. The box features Mr. Fuji, Grand Wizard, Bobby Heenan, Freddie Blassie, Jimmy Hart and Lou Albano. There was a time in wrestling when almost every heel had a manager, and it was a great way to help get guys over who could not speak. Without a manager where would Kamala, George Steele, Demolition, Killer Khan, and all the other great monsters have gone. Managers are seriously lacking the business today, and it’s a shame, managers would help guys like Husky Harris, Alex Riley, Mark Henry and others. With that let’s see what we get on this tape, I expect just a series of promos and highlights.

WWE Survivor Series 2011 – November 20, 2011

Honestly, with WWE’12 staring me in the face right now, I have even less interest in this show then before. Really there is only two matches I care about, and both involve Dolph Ziggler, so I don’t think is going to be my favorite PPV of the year. I don’t care about either title match nor the “big main event”, don’t like Cena and was never a fan of The Rock, Miz and Truth are just supporting players in this. So, let’s get this over with so I can get back to WWE’12, of course the Wii gets the crippled version as always, no create an arena feature, but at least I can push Dolph and Morrison to the top, where they belong. Can’t wait till I get my PS3 repaired or replaced, so I can get the better version of WWE’12. Read more…

Saturday Night’s Main Event #31 – November 14, 1992

Well, we made it to the end of the SNME collection and what a great series of show. This was seven amazing years of WWF TV, and the best era of WWF. Tonight’s episode is the final episode and features three big matches. First let’s go over what’s happened since the last episode. At Wrestlemania VIII Randy Savage defeated Ric Flair for the World Title. Flair was supposed to face Hulk Hogan, but after the events of the last SNME Hulk demanded a match with Sid instead. The finish of the Hulk and Sid match was a little messed up as Papa Shango was supposed to interfere and missed his cue, causing Sid to have to kick out of the legdrop. Papa finally arrived and we had a two on one on Hulk, until none other than the return of The Ultimate Warrior to save Hulk. Warrior had been gone since August of 1991. Hulk then took some time off and was gone until the spring of 1993. Undertaker vanquished Jake Roberts, who then left the WWF for about three years. Also at Wrestlemania Shawn Michaels made his singles debut, Bret Hart recaptured the IC title from Roddy Piper and Owen Hart and Tatanka made their Wrestlemania debuts. In the summer of 1992 Ric Flair tried to get a rematch with Savage, but instead Warrior got the title match at Summerslam. Flair and Perfect then tried to drive a wedge between the new friends claiming Perfect would be in one of their corners. It was all a rouse as Perfect and Flair attacked Savage during the match and Warrior won by countout. Davey Boy Smith won the IC title from Bret Hart in the main event, due to the fact that Summerslam was in the UK. Also we had the debut of Nailz, a convict who claimed the Boss Man beat him in prison. Undertaker defeated Kamala by DQ, leading to a casket match at Survivor Series. Ric Flair was able to get the title back from Savage in the fall, with a little help from newcomer Razor Ramon. However Flair’s second title reign was short lived as he dropped the title to Bret Hart, who was about to receive the biggest push of his career. Tonight we have the team of Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior facing the Tag Champions Money Inc. Savage and Warrior would be teaming up eleven days later to face Ric Flair and Razor Ramon, however Warrior once again left the company and they had to quickly turn Mr. Perfect face to team with Savage. Also tonight Bret Hart defends the World title and Davey Boy defends the IC title. Read more…

Saturday Night’s Main Event #30 – February 8, 1992

Almost to the end of the SNME collection as we have two remaining. Tonight’s episode is three weeks after the Royal Rumble and two months before Wrestlemania. A lot has changed in the WWF since our last SNME back in April 1991. Hulk Hogan was defeated by the Undertaker at the Survivor Series 1991, but due to controversy we had a rematch five days later won by Hulk Hogan. This was not without more controversy and the title was declared vacant. Ric Flair, who debuted in the summer of 1991, won the 1992 Royal Rumble and in the process won the vacant World Title. Randy Savage, who reunited with Elizabeth at Wrestlemania, finally married Elizabeth at Summerslam. At the reception the happy couple was attacked by Jake Roberts and the Undertaker, setting off the Savage and Roberts feud that went through the fall and winter. Bret Hart finally captured his first singles title defeating Mr. Perfect and putting him out of wrestling for years. Bret defended the title proudly against all comers, but finally was beaten for the title by the Mountie. The Mountie would then quickly lose the belt, only two days later, to Roddy Piper, who finally gained a title after eight years with the WWF. The Nasty Boys were able to hold the tag titles up until they ran into the Legion of Doom at Summerslam, making the LOD the first Triple Crown tag team champions. The LOD would lose the tag titles one night before this show to the tag team of Money Inc, Ted DiBiase and IRS (formerly known as Mike Rotundo). Demolition has gone their separate ways as Ax was released, Crush became Hawaiian Crush, and Smash became the Repo Man. Finally Sid Vicious made his long awaited WWF debut in the summer destroying various heels and aligning himself with Hulk Hogan. This friendship was short lived as Sid was eliminated by Hulk at the Rumble and proceeded to eliminate Hulk allowing Ric Flair to win. These two men are forced to team tonight to face Ric Flair and Undertaker. In the Hulk and Sid’s corner, making his big return was Brutus Beefcake, who’s been out for almost two years after a parasailing accident. Let’s get down to ringside for the opening contest.

Saturday Night’s Main Event #28– October 13, 1990

Tonight’s episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event is a special Oktoberfest edition as we have little Oktoberfest skits interspersed in between the matches. Speaking of matches we have the biggest six man tag in the history of SNME, as the World Champion, The Ultimate Warrior teaming with The Legion of Doom to face Demolition. A quick Summerslam recap, as Hulk Hogan beat Earthquake via countout, Warrior beat Rick Rude in the cage, The Hart Foundation captured the tag team titles from Demolition, effectively killing the Demolition characters. The final blow to Demolition will occur at Wrestlemania VII when they lose to two Japanese wrestlers brought in with no fan fare. Mr. Perfect lost the IC title to Kerry Von Erich, who was a substitute for Brutus Beefcake. Brutus missed his IC opportunity for the second year due to injuries. In 1988 he was to face Honky Tonk Man for the title, but a storyline injury at the hands of Ron Bass kept him out. Unfortunately the injuries Brutus suffered that caused him to miss this year’s show were all too real, as he was injured severely in a parasailing accident. This kept Brutus out of the ring for two years, and he was never the same in the ring again. Kerry took this opportunity and won the IC title. Also at Summerslam Randy Savage defeated Dusty Rhodes, when the American Dream was distracted by the loss of his manager, Sapphire. Sapphire was bought by the Million Dollar Man, Ted DiBiase, and this caused Dusty to lose the match. Tonight Dusty gets his rematch with Savage; can Dusty concentrate on the match and forget about Sapphire? We have all this and more tonight on Saturday Night’s Main Event.

The Main Event III – February 23, 1990

As the WWF continues on the road to Wrestlemania VI, we have a stop in Detroit, Michigan first for the Main Event. The last two years of the Main Event have provided some epic moments, at the first one we had Andre the Giant steal the title from Hulk Hogan, and last year the Mega Powers exploded. Tonight the Mega Powers face off for the World Heavyweight title in a rematch from Wrestlemania V, but with an added bonus. Special guest referee Buster Douglas! Wait, who? Who the hell is Buster Douglas and where is Iron Mike Tyson you ask? James Buster Douglas scored the boxing upset of the century defeating Mike Tyson for the championship just two weeks prior to this live show, thus Mike was pulled and Buster took his place. Iron Mike would not be seen in the WWF until Wrestlemania XIV when he officiated the match between Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels which sent Steve Austin to the stratosphere of wrestling. Regardless of the referee tonight, anytime you have Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan in the ring you’re guaranteed a great match, so let’s see what happens.

Saturday Night’s Main Event #25 – January 27, 1990

With tonight’s episode we leave behind the 1980’s and journey into the 1990’s. We’re coming to you just six days after the Royal Rumble. In the Royal Rumble we had the first epic meeting between the past and the present, as Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior squared off. Hulk eliminated the Warrior from the Rumble, supposedly by accident, and now the Warrior’s mad. Tonight these two men must work as a team as they face the man who beat Hulk at the last SNME, the Genius, and Mr. Perfect. Can the two champions unite or will tonight be a perfect victory, all that and more tonight on Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Saturday Night’s Main Event #23 – October 14, 1989

It’s time for another classic SNME recap. Tonight we’re coming to you from Cincinnati, Ohio and we’re about six weeks after Summerslam. At the 1989 Summerslam we crowned a new Intercontinental Champion, as The Ultimate Warrior regained his title from Ravishing Rick Rude, with a little help from Rowdy Roddy Piper. Piper distracted Rude by mooning him, allowing Warrior to nail a back Suplex for the victory. Also at Summerslam new tag team champions the Brain Busters defeated former champions the Hart Foundation while the previous champions Demolition teamed with Jim Duggan to overcome the enormous team of Akeem, Big Boss Man and Andre the Giant. The main event saw Hulk Hogan & Brutus Beefcake defeat the team of Randy Savage and Zeus when Elizabeth tripped Sherri distracting the ref and allowing Hulk to use Sherri’s purse on Zeus for the victory. Only a couple weeks before this show we crowned new tag champions as Demolition regained the titles from the Brain Busters in Wheeling, West Virginia. Tonight we’re on our way to the third annual Survivor Series, so let’s get to ringside. Read more…
