WWF Wrestling Classic

Our next video in the Coliseum Home Video Collection is the first ever WWF PPV, the Wrestling Classic. This was a big tournament that took place in Chicago, Illinois and also featured a World Title defense from Hulk Hogan. It’s the only WWF PPV to feature Roddy Piper versus Hulk Hogan, which is surprising considering what a huge feud they had. This is one of my favorite shows, let’s hope it holds up. Read more…

Best of the WWF Volume 4

It’s time for another classic Coliseum Home Video recap. Next in this great library is The Best of the WWF Volume 4, and this box is bright red with a great shot of the Iron Sheik locking on a camel clutch. Also featured on the box is Big John Studd, Andre the Giant and King Kong Bundy. This tape comes to us around the summer of 1985, with Hulk-a-mania continuing it’s rise to the top of the business. After that last tape anything has to better then 80 minutes of those damn hillbillies, so I expect greatness on this tape, let’s hope I’m right. Read more…

WWF Wrestling’s Country Boys

Due to my DVD player deciding not to cooperate anymore, I had a bit of a delay. I finally got the DVDs to play in my Wii, so we should be good to go. Today’s show is one I’ve been dreading, Wrestling’s Country Boys, a tribute to Hillbilly Jim and his wrestling family. I don’t expect anything good to come from this cluster of a tape. The tape cover is lime green with a shot of Elmer and Jim on the cover and promises some “Down Home Matches”, with that said let’s get this over with so we can get to the good tapes again. WWE March Madness 2011 Tournament

Taking a brief hiatus from the Coliseum Home Video collection, we’re going to recap a special WWE program. The WWE March Madness 2012 Tournament that aired on WWE On Demand. This is basically the WWE’s attempt to do the NCAA March Madness tournament. I have no idea of the matches, so it’s all going to be a surprise, but I have a bad feeling the final match will be Undertaker versus Shawn Michaels, I hope I’m wrong. Hopefully we get some good solid matches and no garbage. Let’s get underway.

Best of the WWF Volume 3

It’s time for another classic WWF Home Video, as we continue through the 80s with the Best of the WWF Volume 3. This tape should cover matches from late 1984 into 1985. The box for this volume features the Junk Yard Dog, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka, and advertises a Battle Royal, Fijian Strap Match, the return of Bruno Sammartino and the best of TNT. Nothing more entertaining then a battle royal and this one includes Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, Big John Studd and others, should be awesome. Following the classic WWF Home Video opener we’re greeted by Vince McMahon, and sadly he’s not wearing a pink suit just a plain tuxedo. Vince goes over tonight’s matches and we have a tag match coming up with the Hart Foundation facing the British Bulldogs, that should be awesome. The battle royal is for thirty thousand dollars, doesn’t seem like much these days. Vince sending it to the ring for our opening match. Read more…

Best of the WWF Volume 1

The third entry in the WWF Coliseum Home Video library is the Best of the WWF Volume 1. This was a very successful series, as the made twenty of these over the years, featuring some amazing matches. The matches were taped at TV Tapings, and were the bonus matches for the live crowd. At this point this was the only way to see the main event matches/wrestlers unless you were there live. The box cover features on of the most popular wrestlers in the WWF at the time, Jimmy Snuka, the father of current diva Tamina. The cover lists Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan and Andre team up, Big John Studd, Cyndi Lauper and Wendi Richter, and Muhammad Ali versus Gorilla Monsoon. Looks like a great lineup, as it features all the big names. Read more…

WWF Hulk-a-Mania

The second tape in the Coliseum Home Video library features the World Heavyweight Champion, Hulk Hogan. The first tape was clips from TNT, mostly skits, however the second tape features some of Hulk Hogan’s best title defenses from his first year as champion. Hulk Hogan captured the World Title in January 1984 from the Iron Sheik, and thus began Hulk-a-Mania and the change in wrestling forever. The WWF quickly capitalized on this with their national expansion and Hulk Hogan leading the charge. This would lead to the Rock-n-Wrestling Connection followed by Wrestlemania, and then the birth of Wrestling Pay Per Views. However we’re getting ahead of ourselves, as right now it’s only 1984 and Hulk-a-Mania was just starting it’s surge. Read more…

TNA Bound For Glory – October 16, 2011

Tonight TNA presents their version of Wrestlemania, and they even pulled the same stupid stunt WWE did. They moved a title match from the main show to the preshow, hopefully it won’t become a battle royal though. TNA decided the tag title match was not important as Kennedy versus Bully, and moved Hernandez & Anarquia versus Shannon Moore & Jesse Neal off the PPV. I’m glad someone posted the preshow up, so I can at least see this match, of course only one of the four are worth watching, Hernandez, but still it’s a title match. Also tonight we have more old people including Jerry Lynn, Kid Kash, and of course Sting and Hulk Hogan. Who seriously decided that seeing Sting versus Hulk Hogan in 2011 was a good idea anyway? Hulk has already said he won’t take bumps tonight, so what’s the point of the match. Even worse was Hulk’s comments a couple days ago knocking AJ Styles and Bobby Roode, yes the same Roode who is in the main event tonight, way to bury a guy who deserves a shot at the top. I’d be happy if this was the last we see of Kurt Angle for a while though, as TNA really needs to start to focus on the young talent and get rid of some of the veterans. Samoa Joe, Matt Morgan, Kaz, Abyss, Hernandez and Austin Aries should be the top six they use right now, instead of Kennedy, Bully, Kash, Angle, Lynn and RVD. Anyways, as far as the build up for this show, it’s been questionable as some matches were thrown together at the last minute, while some got a nice build. Roode and Angle has been built perfectly, but they also put themselves into a corner, if Roode doesn’t win tonight it means the last three months or so has been a waste of time. The Knockout match has been built good, as at least they did qualifier matches to get the Knockouts in the match, but I expect Velvet to walk out with the title tonight, probably leading to Velvet versus Karen Angle soon. Either way I’m looking forward to more of this show then those matches that I’m not interested in, which is a nice change. The only match I really have no interest in his the aforementioned Hogan versus Sting, which better be quick and over booked, as it’s the only way to salvage this disaster. Let’s hope Bound For Glory is better then the Wrestlemania was, which it stands a good chance of. Let’s cover the preshow match first. Read more…

TNA Impact – September 22, 2011

Well, since I can’t find Superstars yet, and I’m waiting for Smackdown, we’ll start with Impact. TNA has been pretty bad lately, which is sad considering the talent they have, they seem hell bent on pushing Sting, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and other old guys. It’s too bad, because if they would push their young talent like AJ Styles, Matt Morgan, Samoa Joe, etc they would be able to give WWE a true run. Anyways, last week on Impact Sting defeated Ric Flair in one of the worst matches of 2011, right up there with Undertaker versus HHH from Wrestlemania. Just a battle of two old men who just can’t cut it anymore. This is supposed to lead to Sting versus Hulk Hogan at Bound For Glory. We could have a three way tie for worst match of 2011.

Saturday Night’s Main Event #30 – February 8, 1992

Almost to the end of the SNME collection as we have two remaining. Tonight’s episode is three weeks after the Royal Rumble and two months before Wrestlemania. A lot has changed in the WWF since our last SNME back in April 1991. Hulk Hogan was defeated by the Undertaker at the Survivor Series 1991, but due to controversy we had a rematch five days later won by Hulk Hogan. This was not without more controversy and the title was declared vacant. Ric Flair, who debuted in the summer of 1991, won the 1992 Royal Rumble and in the process won the vacant World Title. Randy Savage, who reunited with Elizabeth at Wrestlemania, finally married Elizabeth at Summerslam. At the reception the happy couple was attacked by Jake Roberts and the Undertaker, setting off the Savage and Roberts feud that went through the fall and winter. Bret Hart finally captured his first singles title defeating Mr. Perfect and putting him out of wrestling for years. Bret defended the title proudly against all comers, but finally was beaten for the title by the Mountie. The Mountie would then quickly lose the belt, only two days later, to Roddy Piper, who finally gained a title after eight years with the WWF. The Nasty Boys were able to hold the tag titles up until they ran into the Legion of Doom at Summerslam, making the LOD the first Triple Crown tag team champions. The LOD would lose the tag titles one night before this show to the tag team of Money Inc, Ted DiBiase and IRS (formerly known as Mike Rotundo). Demolition has gone their separate ways as Ax was released, Crush became Hawaiian Crush, and Smash became the Repo Man. Finally Sid Vicious made his long awaited WWF debut in the summer destroying various heels and aligning himself with Hulk Hogan. This friendship was short lived as Sid was eliminated by Hulk at the Rumble and proceeded to eliminate Hulk allowing Ric Flair to win. These two men are forced to team tonight to face Ric Flair and Undertaker. In the Hulk and Sid’s corner, making his big return was Brutus Beefcake, who’s been out for almost two years after a parasailing accident. Let’s get down to ringside for the opening contest.
